KIM, KNEC Disown Sudi Certificates
KIM and KNEC Disown Oscar Sudi Certificates as Court Told MP Was Never a Student; High Court Halts Forgery Trial
The academic fraud case facing Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has deepened after the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) both disowned the certificates the lawmaker submitted to the IEBC.
KIM official John Masheshe told the court that Sudi was never registered as a student at the institution and that the registration number on his purported diploma belongs to a different person. He concluded that the certificate must have been forged.
KNEC: No Record of Sudi Ever Sitting KCSE
A letter from KNEC to EACC declared Sudi’s KCSE certificate fake, stating:
-
There is no record of any candidate named Oscar Kipchumba Sudi sitting the exam in 2006.
-
The listed school, Highway High School, does not exist.
-
The school code on the certificate belongs to Parklands Secondary School.
An EACC investigator also confirmed that admission and KCSE records from Highway Secondary School between 2003–2007 show no trace of Sudi ever enrolling or sitting any national examination there.
A government documents examiner further dismissed the leaving certificate Sudi gave to IEBC, saying the signature of the alleged principal Jadiel Kaburu Mbogori was not authentic.
EACC, DPP Accuse Sudi of Delay Tactics
Sudi faces charges of forging academic certificates and submitting false information to the IEBC ahead of the 2013 General Election.
He was charged before Anti-Corruption Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi on October 6 last year, pleaded not guilty, and was released on bail.
He was required to personally appear before trial magistrate Felix Kombo today after his previous absence was termed “dubious.” The court intended to determine whether his bail terms should be cancelled.
High Court Temporarily Stops Trial
However, before the appearance, Justice Hedwig Ong’udi of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division stayed the proceedings, pending the hearing of a petition Sudi filed alleging violations in the prosecution process.
The stay now delays the next phase of the forgery trial until the High Court issues further directions.
