Suna East Aspirant Charged With Impersonation

Amani Congress Suna East Aspirant Charged With Impersonation Over Academic Certificates

An Amani Congress Party aspirant for Suna East Constituency has been charged before a Nairobi anti-corruption court over allegations of impersonation and providing false information to investigators.

Patrick Ochieng Odipo was arraigned before Anti-Corruption Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, where he denied all the charges.

Alleged Use of Another Person’s KCSE Certificate

According to the charge sheet, Odipo allegedly committed the offence in March 1994 within the Republic of Kenya by presenting a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) result slip issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to another individual.

The prosecution told the court that the certificate originated from Songhor Secondary School and belonged to Ochieng Patrick, bearing Index Number 71028/001, but Odipo allegedly falsely represented himself as the rightful owner of the document.

False Information to EACC Investigators

Odipo is further accused that on June 27 this year, at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices in Nairobi, he knowingly deceived EACC investigators Pius Dhiwa and Jackline Makena by claiming that he possessed a KCSE certificate from Songhor Secondary School and a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) from Middoti Primary School, allegations the prosecution says he knew to be false.

Similar charges state that Odipo again provided false information to EACC officers at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi during the same period.

University Admission Also Under Scrutiny

In another count, the aspirant is accused of impersonation after allegedly presenting another person’s secondary school certificate to the Presbyterian University of East Africa, a document said to have been issued by KNEC to Ochieng Patrick.

Plea and Bail

Odipo faces multiple counts, including impersonation and giving false information to investigators.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court released him on a Sh300,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh1 million pending hearing and determination of the case.
